Looking at the Best Vegas Residency Artists of All time

Las Vegas is known for being the entertainment capital of the world and if you’re visiting, there’s a good chance that in between checking the casino & hitting the clubs, you’ll want to catch the shows while you’re there from one of the popular artist residencies which take place here. Over the years, Vegas has played host to a number of big-name artists – these are some of the best and most popular that have taken up residency in Las Vegas in recent years. 

Mariah Carey

Pop icon Mariah Carey took up residency in the Sin City back in 2015 at the Colosseum, which she held until early 2016 when Celine Dion took over the stage. The Butterfly Returns headed back to the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in February 2019, backed by a four-piece live band, three backup singers and seven dancers. 

Guns n’ Roses

The hard rock band has actually enjoyed residency at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino twice. Their first residency, Appetite for Democracy, was back in 2012 while their second residency, No Trickery! An Evening of Destruction was in 2014. 

Elton John

Back in 2004 through to 2009, Elton John performed 75 concerts under his The Red Piano residency at the iconic Caesars Palace. The Million Dollar Piano was his second residency which opened in 2011 at the same venue. 

Cher

Cher is a Las Vegas regular and has had residencies there on several occasions. She signed a $60 million a year deal in 2008 for her residency at the Colosseum and during the three years she had residency there, she performed almost 200 shows which included her most famous hits. 

Celine Dion

Celine Dion’s residency at Caesars Palace began in 2003 until 2007 and then a second started in 2011, where she performed an estimated 70 performances a year which made her the top earner in Vegas at $500,000 per show. The show was put on hold between 2014 until 2015 where it was announced it would be resumed and it only concluded in June of this year. Over the course of her residency, Dion performed 427 shows. 

Britney Spears

One of the most successful residencies in Vegas, Spears’ Piece of Me residency at Planet Hollywood began at the end of 2013 and was extended by a further two years in 2014. In her new contract, Britney signed on for a staggering $475,000 for each performance. 

Bette Midler

Bette Midler is one of the most celebrated stars of our time and she began her two-year residency in 2008, with The Showgirl Must Go On. Midler certainly gave the performances her all, with reports that she had to take therapy sessions and vitamin B12 shots after each show to recover. 

Prince

In 2006, Prince signed a one-year contract with the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino and actually opened a nightclub there called 3121 where he performed on the weekends. 

Queen with Adam Lambert

While the original line-up didn’t have a residency in Vegas, Queen did perform with Adam Lambert at the Park Theater at Park MGM. In September 2018, they performed ten shows with The Crown Jewels.
