Vannon – “I Come to Destroy”

/

Twelve-minute hard-rock epic “I Come to Destroy” is the finale on Desert of Our Dreams, the latest album from Oakland-based band Vannon. The release’s apocalyptic themes and doom-metal/prog-rock integration play convincingly throughout. The first couple minutes cast a patient, dark mystique with murmuring guitars, backing shimmering resonance, and a dark vocal choir backing. The rock-forward frenzy is fully apparent by the three-minute mark, the title-referencing refrain playing with ardency and vigor. A guitar solo rounding the seven-minute mark combines with the wordless backing vocal power for an especially powerful, anthemic unleashing. Fans of theatrical hard rock, particularly of epic length, are quite likely to enjoy “I Come to Destroy” and the rest of Desert of Our Dreams.
