German band Roller Derby conjure late-night rock theatrics throughout “Starry-Eyed.” The track’s dreamy rock sound excels, from the bass-hopping post-punk tranquility of the verses to the resonating “talk to me,” hook. “Talk to me, I wanna feel your misery,” Philine Meyer’s vocals let out during the track’s escalation, swelling from lushness into a textured rock-friendly vigor. The lyrical yearning to connect, and sympathize, plays poignantly amidst the retrospective, night-set tones. Manuel Romero Soria’s hypnotic guitar work and Max Nielsen’s resonating bass lines add wonderfully within Dennis Jüngel’s production. “Starry-Eyed” captivates with its dreamy rock allure.
