Moviola – “Zero Sum”

A timeless-sounding rocker with soaring appeal, “Zero Sum” is the new single from Moviola, a band from Columbus, Ohio. Suave guitar tones and steady percussion give way to the understated vocals, gradually adorned by backing vocal reflections, reminiscent of The Replacements. The title-referencing chorus is aided by a bright organ alongside the melodic vocal caressing, traversing seamlessly into the twangy classic-rock feeling of the verses thereafter.

The final minute enhances the hypnotic fervency with looser organ-based theatrics and wordless vocal enthusiasm, escalating feverishly into the gorgeous surf-pop inspiration within the conclusion. Moviola’s prolific discography dates back over 25 years and includes ten records. “Zero Sum” is a stellar addition to their catalog, showing a melodic and stylistically memorable sound.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2022’ Spotify playlist.
