James Domeyko – “The Isle of Jewels”

/

“The Isle of Jewels” is an intriguing success from Australian artist James Domeyko. The track shows as an ambitious seven-minute piece with piano, synths, and saxophones intermingling beautifully, resulting in a starkly beautiful soundscape.

Wintry glistening complements of the emotive piano introduction, complemented throughout by a string-laden chilliness and gently ruminating percussion alongside brass flourishes. Jazzy intricacy and delicate ambient bliss converge on this tasteful success, with rhythmic lead-ins (like at the 3.5min mark) playing with seamless crispness. Synth-laden whispers and whirring brass tones make for a riveting second half, with shades of Philip Glass in the string movements.

“The Isle of Jewels” is a stirring, colorful creation from Domeyko, capturing the artist’s knack for cinematic and sweeping soundscapes.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2022’ Spotify playlist.
