Hope Whitelock delivers a stirring success with the new single “Kafkaesque,” described by the artist as “a song about getting to know yourself and not really liking what you find.” Originally from the Northeast and presently based in Boulder, CO, Whitelock touts a sound abundant in honesty and no-frills rock pedigree, with twangy and jam-friendly guitars and keys accompanying lyrics that appeal to the “burned-out try-hard that isn’t trying anymore.”

A strong lyrical hold plays engagingly amidst the laid-back rock arsenal. The “I’m a bad person,” refrain plays with a convincing intimacy, relaying a series of “bad traits” and habits amidst caressing guitars and reflectively lush keys. “They say you gotta find yourself, well I don’t like myself,” the verse concludes, traversing seamlessly into the “bad person,” reprisal. “Kafkaesque” is a memorable success from Hope Whitelock.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2022’ Spotify playlist.
