Swiss Banks – “Animals”

/

Austin-based trio Swiss Banks show a commanding rock sound on “Animals,” conjuring a darkly suave post-punk integration with shades of Nick Cave and Interpol. An eerie, ghostly backing effect lingers alongside a bustling post-punk bass line, as snarling guitars coalesce into the fierce vocal lead.

“I’m living like an animal, a barnyard life, dysfunctional,” the vocals let out, rousing into the “wanna come over to my house,” vocal hook — reminding of the excitement relationships can arise, even as dark clouds envelop every other aspect of life. “Animals” is a powerful rock success from Swiss Banks.

The band elaborate on the track:

“It’s an emotionally honest message that explores the tension of “giving your best,” and yet no matter how hard one tries, coming up short to fit in and succeed in a society that they can’t seem to figure out how to happily co-exist with.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2022’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
