Waterfowl – “Open Up”

/

Toronto-based duo Waterfowl show a dreamy, jangly charm on their debut single “Open Up.” The initial vocals and guitar pulses concoct a nostalgic psych-friendly familiarity, traversing into an organ-laden glitz within the stellar hook that follows. “Just let it take over your mind,” the vocals suggest here. Soaring guitar work in the final minute adds further to the psychedelic immersion, complemented by guitar work with seeming alt-rock and Brit-pop inspiration.

“Open Up” is a consuming debut from the act, whose forthcoming debut album, Habitat, “explores the idea of finding belonging in a home slowly being destroyed by uncontrolled greed.” This particular track emphasizes that as well, described as “a brooding psychedelic satire of Jeffrey, Elon, and the Cult of Big Tech.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2022’ Spotify playlist.
