monski – ‘CODE’ EP

The CODE EP presents a striking sound from monski, the project of German musician and cinematographer Simon Drescher. Sharp-cutting synths and hypnotic rhythms combine with mystique-filled guitar lines and double bass for thorough entrancement. Both tracks blend seamlessly into one another, gradually expanding with atmospheric intrigue.

The release serves as the soundtrack for the short film BASSVERKEHR. The suavely scenic material fits the artistic street photography of the video — shot on Super 8 film — beautifully.

A sense of ’90s nostalgia permeates throughout both the track and video, making for apt partners. The artist grew up enamored with both music and skateboarding, so the project bleeds with evident passion and reverence. Inspirations like DJ Shadow and DJ Krush peek through in the crisp, atmospheric production.

Drescher says it concisely and effectively: “My music should feel like a 90s skateboard video on VHS.”

The EP features mixing from Leo Hopfinger and mastering from Sam Irl on a tape machine.
