Callis – “Dramaskin”

/

The debut single from UK act Callis, “Dramaskin” impresses in its compelling build, evolving from the verses’ laid-back mystique into rousing bursts of guitar-driven invigoration. Per the band, the release is “about the emotional process of leaving behind one place for another.”

Recorded at Holy Mountain in London, “Dramaskin” finds dynamic accompaniment in the lead vocals of Dean Molyneux, who complements his own guitar work with matching vocal tones of debonair yearning and fervent anthemic charm. Bassist Bryn Davies and drummer Tyler Hanley provide a steady backbone, entrancing during the “feel like talking at all,” escalation in particular. “Dramaskin” is a fantastic introduction from Callis, who I’ll certainly be anticipating future releases from.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2023’ Spotify playlist.
