Middle Priest – “Act Your Age”

/

Released today, “Act Your Age” is the debut single from Los Angeles-based act Middle Priest, via the upcoming EP I thought that I was far away, out in October. Its understated, confident evolution from acoustic-set folk into twangy rock excellence makes for a climactic, resonating build.

“How long must I wait for you?” the opening vocals let out yearningly, amidst a steady acoustic-laden engrossment. Twangy guitars enter thereafter with immersive qualities, jangling with exuberance and spirited charm. The “been missing you,” lead-in plays with invigorating qualities, as does the exuberant vocal yelp at the two-minute turn, showing shades of The War on Drugs. Delectable guitar enthusiasm rounds the three-minute turn with further whimsy, driving to a wholly satiating conclusion on this stellar debut.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.
