Forgotten Garden – “Francesca”

/

UK-based act Forgotten Garden unveil a ghostly sound on their new single “Francesca.” Pit-pattering drums and nocturnal guitar crawls complement lyrics evoking a “darkening sky,” and “crushed by the weight of change,” signifying a dramatic change in one’s life — from ascending the glitzy socialite life, to becoming a full-time caretaker.

The track’s commanding thematic focus concocts an intriguing narrative, portraying a descent from socialite indulgences into that of a caretaker. The song’s protagonist feels trapped — once a social creature, yet now encumbered by the duty of caring for her demanding, overbearing mother.

Inês Rebelo’s vocals send chills with their initially understated ruminations, escalating during the “tell me why, Francesca,” pleading; here, hazy synth additions bolster the entrancing soundscape. “Francesca” is a gripping success from Forgotten Garden, who spin a intoxicating narrative alongside the hauntingly melodic drive.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.
