Mod Mofma – “The Poster”

/

“The Poster” touts a darkly mysterious rock sound, while still retaining a hooky briskness. The hazy rocker comes from Mad Mofma, a Denver-based act that took shape this past year. Childhood friends Chaz Chapman and Erik Barnes were joined by bassist Olivia Sun and vocalist Megan Shanian this past spring, after Barnes moved from Seattle to Denver.

“I don’t want a friend, but I don’t want you to leave,” the vocals admit into a riveting sequence, where wordless vocals and reflective guitars traverse into the melodic “stay right here with me,” yearning. Shades of Sonic Youth’s alt-rock ferocity and Interpol’s moody/melodic post-punk chops are both evident at points. “The Poster” is a stellar single from Mod Mofma, who also released the single “What Are You Thinking?” earlier this year.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.
