The Place on Rugby – “Trying To Forget”

/

“Trying To Forget” is a hooky rocker from The Place on Rugby, a band based in Orange, California. Effervescent synths glide into a bursting guitar sequence, consuming from the get-go. The lead vocals find accompaniment largely in the bustling bass and synths in the verses, launching into a fervent “know myself,” hook — with reflective guitars, echoing an early ’00s indie rock nostalgia.

Vocal commiserations on how “I lost myself,” play with enjoyable vigor, with the “whoa,” elongation traversing into another catching “I lost myself,” admittance. A brief yet wholly impactful melodic twist shows prior to the initial hook’s reprisal, which cohesively caps off this successful, addictive single from The Place on Rugby.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.
