“Circles” is a gripping dream-pop production from Fancy Animals, a band based in Portland, Oregon. Suave bass and jangling guitars complement Rochelle Mikulich’s caressing vocal presence. “Circles of your eyes,” they let out, as the guitars escalate in jangly fervency as the vocals “feel the riptide.”
The verses, with the clanging bass and sporadic guitar trickling, play with enjoyable momentum into the more textured, warming chorus. Mikulich and multi-instrumentalist Garrison Grouse lead a sound with ample entrancement, hypnotic and dreamy while still retaining a punchy melodic fervency — especially apparent in the gorgeously shoegaze-y “get inside,” closing plea.
