Hydromag – “P.J.R.”

/

The very impressive “P.J.R.” is the first single from Hydromag’s forthcoming second EP, This Is Fleeting. The project of Canterbury-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Josh Best-Shaw, Hydromag is described as “essentially a bedroom recording project” — though by the impressive production quality of “P.J.R.” you wouldn’t know. Gorgeous guitar glistening and lush synths envelop a dual male-female vocal delivery to start, the bridge around 00:50 featuring spacey dashes of synth that lead to the beautiful chorus shortly thereafter. It’s capped by a delectable guitar solo in the waning moments. “P.J.R.” is a fantastic follow-up to Hydromag’s Sweet Obsession EP in 2017, which featured lead single “I Need to Know“, which received support from BBC Radio 1. The project is appropriately described by Josh as a “mixture of dream pop and shoegaze.”

“P.J.R.” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2018’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Shoegaze / Post-Punk / Dream-Pop 2018.
