Skin Mag – “An Exercise in Hindsight”

/

Long Beach five-piece Skin Mag impressed last year with the track “Tonight Show,” touting hypnotic, layered guitar work and a psych-friendly vocal presence. That alluring aesthetic returns on new track “An Exercise in Hindsight,” — released today. Gliding guitars and a faint synth-laden flicker begin the track, as clunkier guitars and a ghostly backing whirring take hold for a moment, before understated vocals emerge. The track’s verses shift gears with seamless excitement, the aforementioned guitar gliding acting as an effective mechanism in leading to the dreamy hook around 01:30. Chalk this one up as another success for the emerging Skin Mag, this particular one being fondly reminiscent of Deerhunter.

“An Exercise in Hindsight” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Rock.
