Das Kope – “Kids in the Sky”

//

Released today, “Kids in the Sky” is an impressive psych-pop track from Das Kope. It’s fitting that the artist behind Das Kope, a Los Angeles resident by the name of George, once lived only a few blocks from where Brazilian rock legends Os Mutantes originated. Perhaps that space’s many moments of psych-friendly rock genius rubbed off. Regardless, Das Kope shows a consuming and hypnotic sound here. A soft synth pulsing and mellow guitars accompany serene vocals to start, with the 35-second mark showing the first glimpse of the track’s main title-referencing hook. That vocal melody emerges at points throughout, complemented by gripping moments like at two minutes in, when a bouncy bass line combines with vintage synths for a memorably atmospheric, melodic pull. “Kids in the Sky” touts hazy psych-pop goodness from Das Kope.

“Kids in the Sky” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Hypnotic Psychedelia.
