Novelty Island – “Saturn Alarms”

//

“Saturn Alarms” is an entrancing journey of a track from Novelty Island, exploring various sections of psych-rock and pop bliss. Jangly guitars and harmonious backing vocals converge around the one-minute mark for the first great hook, followed by a nifty psych-friendly bridge and fleeting guitar solo. Stylistically, the vibes here remind of Suede. Another notable section is just prior to three minutes in, when the vocals assume a lusher psych-forward tone as the track fades into its satisfying finale. Wonderfully produced and full of interesting melodic turns, “Saturn Alarms” is a satisfying gem from Novelty Island.

“A while back I spotted “Saturn Alarms” written on the back wall of my mum’s house in Liverpool. She still doesn’t know it’s there…” writes the artist behind the project, Tom McConnell. “Enter the cardboard, paper-mache, sticky-back-plastic universe of Saturn Alarms. It’s hanging by a thread, at threat of collapse into different sorts of purple where the Saturn Alarms will ring out forever…”

“Saturn Alarms” represents the first single from Novelty Island’s debut EP, Welcome To Novelty Island, releasing in March 2020. The track was mastered and recorded at Abbey Road Institute.
