Mums Favourite – “Joan of the Arcade”

/

Australian band Mums Favourite impress on their new track “Joan of the Arcade,” channeling a bluesy vein of psych-rock with a passionate vocal lead and sweat-inducing energy. The Adelaide-based act show exceptionally well on their first single of the year.

A suave bass line and crawling guitars complement a suavely invigorating vocal presence, kicking off the retrospective “I remember being 17,” sequence with sweltering appeal. The bluesy fervency of Sasha’s passionate vocals and accompanying confident guitar tones intermingle throughout, with precise and melodic results.

Sasha’s howling, electric vocal performance leads a lyrical love story with playful wit, inspired by the Black Mirror episode “San Junipero.” Producer Nick Sverdlof aids the talented band in meshing their rock-based ferocity with a love-seeking yearning. The release’s music video was partially shot at the South Australia Pinball and Arcade — intentionally shot in 4:3 aspect ratio to “fit the “arcade” times.”

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2022’ Spotify playlist.
