Charley Horse – “Locket”

/

Austin-based act Charley Horse show nicely again with the track “Locket,” described by the band as “an homage to 90s/early 200s alternative rock … like if Sheryl Crow wrote a song for Pavement or Teenage Fanclub.” Impressing this past June with the track “Summer,” Charley Horse continue to showcase a strong melodic pull that deftly balances laid-back retrospection with soaring nostalgia.

Chirpy guitar tones and an enveloping bass line excel into the vocals, touting a nasally tone that fits aptly within the alt-rock/punk vein. Several melodic rises — specifically the “I can’t remember,” escalation at the track’s mid-point — make for a riveting, replay-inducing charm. The jangly “uh-huh,” sequence also stands out, helping lead into a gratifying conclusion with ghostly guitar tones. “Locket” further emphasizes Charley Horse’s catchy, nostalgic rock sound.
