Lauren O’Connell – “Joangeline”

//

“Joangeline” is a gripping new single from Los Angeles-based artist Lauren O’Connell, strutting a ’90s alt-rock nostalgia in its gradual ascent — conjuring shades of Japanese Breakfast and Mitski. “All I wanted to know, who would want me the way I want you,” O’Connell sings during the impactful central hook, sending chills with the impassioned vocals and warming guitar distortion.

“I have hardly known a moment’s peace, but I want you, so come to me,” the more understated verses follow, conveying a sense of enrapturing yearning amidst jangling guitar tones. “Come and crack me open.” “Joangeline” is a stirring rocker whose hooky yearning compels throughout.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
