The Muster Point Project – “I Love That Song”

//

Canadian band The Muster Point Project evoke coming-of-age wisdom through melodic no-frills rock on new single “I Love That Song.” The effort makes the second of five collaborations with Canadian novelist Geoff Moore, who describes the release as “about that awkward time in a young life when one must decide between suggested or passed down role models or choose new ones.”

The lyrics captivate in the quick escalation from childhood to adulthood, from idolizing Gordie Howe to “smoking up drink ’til I drop,” as the hard times persist. Twangy guitars and backing organs complement this debonair vocal composure. Wordless backing vocals and a key-laden stutter emerges during the title-touting charm — “won’t you play it again one more time before I go?” This track itself elicits similar temptations; the melodic vocal delivery, confident guitar work, and key-laden infusions combine for a memorable sound that entices replays.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.
