“If You Want” is a new single from Cloudbelly, a band from Western Massachusetts. The track comes via their upcoming album i know i know i know, complemented by a US tour beginning in February. The album draws inspiration from the human experience — and particularly the process of grieving, remembering, getting angry, forgiving, and the myriad of emotions we all experience.
A moving production with strings and from-the-heart vocal sincerity, “If You Want” is described by the band as “an impassioned conversation between two voices residing in the same body, reckoning with a tendency to run from the things you want the most.” The “why would you go dark again?” vocal questioning echoes a feeling of “heart-sick,” as a reflection of “hubris like Icarus,” with plucky instrumentation and escalating vocal emotion stirring thereafter. “If You Want” is a gorgeous showing from Cloudbelly, whose upcoming album we’re firmly anticipating.
