Winston Orz – “Smooth Magic”

//

Wilmington, NC-based artist Winston Orz captivates with a lushly psychedelic vein of pop on “Smooth Magic.” The self-described Tame Impala-inspired “dream waltz” melds various influences — soul and synth-pop notably — for a sound rich in atmosphere and melodic momentum.

Smooth guitars and sensual bass conjure that soul-friendly arsenal to start, with organ-laden shimmering invigorating during the “I guess it’s real,” vocal momentum. The ensuing title-touting engrossment hits hard, infusing heady synths and psychedelic guitar jangles for a gorgeous unveiling. “Smooth Magic” is extremely easy to get lost within; the production is thoroughly entrancing, from the hazy synth insertions to the tender guitars that lead a satiating finale.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Dream-Pop.
