Joseon – “FiENDS”

/

A hooky rock sound complements critiques on an image-obsessed culture on “FiENDS,” a compelling new single from Joseon. The Los Angeles-based quartet impress with a variety of gripping moments throughout, from the emotive guitar/vocal interplay in the first minute+ to the satiating rhythmic build-up in the second half.

An illuminated guitar lead flows with nostalgic ferocity amidst yearning vocal tones. “Don’t sugarcoat a smile, your teeth look great,” the lyrics illustrate the beauty of natural charms over artificial facades. The final minute features a climactic unveiling around the three-minute turn into a gorgeous, sprawled-out rock soaring, putting a bow on this success from Joseon.

“FiENDS” represents the second single from the band’s upcoming debut EP, YOUTHiNASiA.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
