Matt Van – “ashes”

/

“ashes” is a moving folk success from Matt Van, a singer/songwriter from the Midwest. Gentle acoustics and piano intertwine beautifully as vocals ask “where do all the stories go?” — wondering if they “melt away,” like snowflakes.

Ruminations on life-after-death, and life itself (“why does music make me cry?”), send chills via the ghostly vocals. The introspective, melancholic tones stir amidst a calming folk quality, asking some of life’s biggest questions within a comfortable, melodic soundscape propelled by acoustic guitars, chiming piano, and gentle percussion — coming to terms with the fact that “there’s so much that I’ll never know.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
