Nehedar – “Survival”

/

“Survival” is the impressive opening track on Escaping Zion, the newest album from Nehedar, the project of singer/songwriter Emilia Cataldo. She got her start performing her original music in 2003 across NYC’s Lower East Side and Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The album includes collaborations with new full-time bandmate cellist/harpist Elisheva Maister, trumpeter Jordan Hirsch, electric guitarist Tim Rockmore, and longtime producer Craig Levy (Little Pioneer). The track is exciting throughout. Spurts of brass coincide with alt-rock guitars to accompany the fierce vocal presence. An energetic guitar solo kicks in around 02:10, before the vocals arrive for one last go-round and hypnotic “out, out, out.” It’s a great start to an album that will please fans of alternative, especially with a fondness for ’90s nostalgia.
