SRVR – “Birdman”

/

“Birdman” is the moody rock debut from SRVR, the collaborative project of South London-based producers/songwriters Sidney Rivers and Vincent Rouge. Bluesy vocal chants and a clanging piano note drive into an emotive vocal lead, touting a Bowie-esque glam. The culminating refrain — “I am birdman,” — meshes with deep-toned vocal reflections for a strong hypnotic pull.

Bouncy keys adorn the soaring “if it all comes down,” sequence, wholly captivating with a psych-rock twang. A tender guitar emphasis follows amidst the familiar piano pulse, evolving into bluesy adornments upon the title-referencing refrain’s reprisal. “Birdman” is a strongly memorable debut from SRVR.

“‘Birdman’ is about power, self delusion and a bad hair piece,” the group write. “The vocal and piano loop that form the basis of the track are a reference to old Delta Blues chants, whilst the lyrics relate to the recent U.C political divide and ensuing violence of the Capitol riots.”

The track was recorded and mixed at 123 Studios in London, with producer Rob Wilks (Foals, Lianne La Havas, Florence and the Machine). Look for SRVR’s debut album to release in early 2023.
