Lithia – “Self Isolation”

/

Chicago-based band Lithia shows a gripping rock sound on new single “Self Isolation,” whose riveting soundscape conjures late-night ’80s nostalgia in its moody vocal escalations and twangy guitar character. The project was formed by songwriter Sylvia Vaser, who formed the band after releasing 2021 EP Sleepwalker.

The title-touting sequence resonates with its anthemic qualities; the ascended vocals and chirpy guitar reflections rouse into the “self isolation,” refrain approaching the 3-minute turn. Dreamy guitar emphasis — with shades of The War on Drugs — propels into a satiating conclusion.

Vaser says: “I wanted the upbeat, pop influenced vocals to become almost satirical, as the lyrics speak to the craving for human connection underlying the pursuit personal alienation.”

“Self Isolation” marks the first single from an upcoming LP.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.
