Ollie Lou Smith – ‘Some Sweet Feeling’ EP

/

Berlin-based artist Ollie Lou Smith exudes a relatable, spontaneous folk appeal throughout the Some Sweet Feeling EP. Recorded in the summer of 2021 in the artist’s Berlin flat, amidst daily routines and interruptions, the EP flows with a gorgeously organic appeal — providing a warming folk aesthetic that accompanies lyrics with reassuring, adoring qualities and reminders of what matters most in life.

The opening “Monkey Mine, Monkey Mind” echoes these personable sentiments alongside a bluesy folk immersion. “I’m just a wild monkey, you’re just a corporate giant,” the vocals let out, exuding a sense of celebrated individuality amidst a hordes of salesman and manipulators. The ensuing title track melds soothing vocal layers and calming guitars in the pursuit of “some sweet feeling.” The hypnotic warmness emanates throughout.

The two-parter “Goatskin Moon” provides further comfort, remarking “I could fly me into space, old goatskin moon, one day you’ll find me coming home to you,” — seemingly alluding to the power of loved ones, and how that love persists even through spacefaring travels, whether your beloved or “space dog.” The Some Sweet Feeling EP showcases a beautiful, heartfelt folk sound from Ollie Lou Smith.

“Some Sweet Feeling” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2023’ Spotify playlist.
