Janna Pelle – “Echolocation”

/

“Echolocation” is a powerful track from Janna Pelle, via her new album of the same name, captivating with prior tracks like “Know Too Much” and “Ever.” Pelle’s sound captivates with spacious, hypnotic soundscapes that traverse cohesively within passionate vocal performances — spanning seamlessly from dreamy pop to rousing rock.

Pelle’s new album’s title track is representative of her strong songwriting, showing a knack for rewarding build-ups. On “Echolocation,” hypnotic vocal swells stun with their beautifully enveloping qualities and subsequent fade-in. Gentle synth reflections build as Pelle’s lead vocals emerge, touting a more intimate immediacy.

The track’s emotional core focuses thematically on coming to terms of death. The concluding “tell me, am I doing it right?” refrain plays with particular power, reflecting Pelle’s attempts to reach her late father — particularly as, according to Pelle, “one of the outcomes of his death was a reminder that life is short,” which encouraged Pelle to fully dedicate herself to producing her own music.
