Twin Rains – “You’re the Only One”

/

Toronto-based act Twin Rains impress with the new single “You’re the Only One.” The “apocalyptic love song” embraces elements of dream-pop and post-punk, with dynamic tonal appeal. Representing the band’s first new material since 2021’s full-length Unreal City, “You’re the Only One” is a stellar return, showing both a punchy immediacy and dreamy textural pull.

Lonesome-sounding guitar twangs quickly rise into a blistering array of buzzing guitars and spirited vocals, maintaining a dream-like composure in the vocal elegance while complemented by a reverberating rhythmic pulse and bouncy guitar pluckiness. “I used to be afraid,” the vocals admit during a subdued bridge, as pulsing rhythms and synth-laden buzzing adding climactically. “You’re the Only One” stirs in its dynamic shifts from dreamy contemplation to gripping rock energy.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.
